Sharjah Municipality Busts Arab Fraudster Selling Tank Water as Zamzam

Sharjah City Municipality has uncovered a major fraud operation in which an Arab national turned a residential property into an illegal site for bottling and packaging tank water, falsely promoting it as Zamzam water. The individual was selling the water at high prices through deceptive means, in clear violation of public health regulations and local laws.

The operation was revealed through coordinated efforts between the Inspection and Control Department and the Health Control and Safety Department. During routine field inspections, municipal teams observed vehicles loading large quantities of bottled water from a residential property. The site was immediately raided, where authorities found extensive stockpiles of plastic bottles and cartons labeled as Zamzam, all filled under unsanitary conditions. The counterfeit product was being marketed and sold via social media platforms.

H.E. Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality, emphasized the municipality's continuous commitment to combating harmful practices that pose a risk to public health and safety. He stated that strict legal and administrative measures would be taken against anyone found exploiting residents or engaging in activities that violate local laws and cultural norms.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was issuing invoices under the name of a licensed company, “R.T. Mineral Water Trading," misleading consumers by using the company's credentials to sell the counterfeit product. The municipality promptly coordinated with the Sharjah Economic Development Department, which ordered the immediate closure of the company. The case was also referred to Sharjah Police for legal proceedings.

Al Tunaiji added that the inspection teams mobilized the necessary staff, equipment, and vehicles to confiscate the entire stock and proceed with disposal according to municipal procedures. The residence used in the operation was also officially shut down.

Sharjah City Municipality urges the public to avoid dealing with unlicensed food or beverage providers and to refrain from purchasing products through social media without verifying their source and proper licensing. Residents are encouraged to report any violations by contacting the Call Center at 993
