Committee on Agricultural Violations Intensifies Oversight to Ensure Proper Use of Farms

1/13/2025

The Farm Violations Removal Committee in Sharjah has reaffirmed that the agricultural lands and farms allocated by the Emirate of Sharjah to citizens aim to support them economically, contribute to achieving self-sufficiency, and bolster the food security system. This is accomplished by ensuring these lands are used for their designated purposes and managed optimally, in line with the approved regulations and laws governing operations. Permitted activities on these lands are strictly limited to agriculture and livestock rearing, while any other use is deemed a violation of the laws and contrary to the purpose for which these farms were granted.
His Excellency Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Committee for the Removal of Violations in Agricultural Areas, emphasized that the proper investment of agricultural lands plays a pivotal role in achieving Sharjah’s vision for economic diversification, enhancing food security, and supporting sustainable development goals. He noted that dedicating these lands exclusively to agriculture enables the production of diverse crops that supply the local market with a wide range of agricultural products, generating significant economic benefits for farm owners while reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to supporting farmers.
His Excellency also highlighted that engaging in unauthorized activities that deviate from the regulations governing agricultural lands is strictly prohibited. He pointed out that some farmers resort to renting out their farms for financial gain during the winter season, a practice that violates the intended purpose of these lands. Such misuse leads to harmful and disruptive practices that negatively affect neighbouring farms and their owners, while also jeopardizing the rights of tenants in cases where their privacy is violated or they suffer damages.
The Chairman stated that the committee is intensifying its monitoring and awareness efforts to address such practices promptly and firmly. These actions aim to mitigate harm, disturbances, and violations, which contravene existing regulations and the emirate’s efforts to maintain farms as ideal environments for agricultural and livestock production. He emphasized that these inspection and oversight efforts are focused on protecting farms, removing violations, ensuring security and stability, fostering agricultural development, and promoting environmental and community awareness.
