Sharjah Municipality receives WHO delegation to review requirements for expanding Healthy Cities scope

7/15/2021

Sharjah City Municipality (SCM) received a delegation from the Regional Office of the World Health Organization to review the criteria of water, sanitation, food safety and air pollution, which come under the supervision by the SCM.
The visit was conducted by the WHO delegation to review and assess the requirements for expanding the scope of Healthy Cities, which is supervised by the Sharjah Health Authority and the Executive Committee for the expansion of Healthy Cities scope.
The delegation toured Jubail market as a model for health markets to check the SCM role in controlling the entry of fresh meat, vegetables, fruits and fish into the market as part of Sharjah Food safety program, which is a success story in customer behavior change towards food safety and promoting good hygiene practices.
They also took a tour inside the SCM Food Laboratory, to review and assess water analysis procedures.
The delegation also visited Sharjah Environment Company "Bee'ah", as a partner with the SCM in meeting the environmental standards and requirements. They checked the waste management facility and the Emirates Energy Generation Facility, which is the first of its kind in the Arab world.
