Sharjah Municipality prepares for rainy season

Sharjah City Municipality has begun its preparations for the rainy season, as its competent teams have cleaned the stormwater drains in all areas of Sharjah. The municipality also provided the necessary equipment in the areas that are not covered by stormwater drainage systems.

Thabit Al Turaifi, director general and head of the Rain Emergency Committee at the municipality, said that the competent teams in the municipality have completed their campaign to clean the stormwater drains in various areas of the city of Sharjah, since these drains are exposed to accumulation of dust, dirt and green waste, which affects their effectiveness in water drainage.

Eng. Hassan Al Taffaq, Assistant Director General for Agriculture and Environment at the municipality, explained that the municipality has provided specialized teams equipped with the necessary equipment and tools to complete the cleaning works of the drains.

More than 11,000 stormwater drains were cleaned in various streets and squares in approximately 200 working hours. The teams also completed the maintenance and cleaning of 17 pumping stations out of 21 main pumping stations in the city.
