Sharjah City Municipality (SCM) has launched the 14th edition of the best garden competition under the theme “Gardening Is an Art and Creativity”, within the framework of its keenness to boost greenery and landscaping, and enrich the aesthetic and cultural appearance of Sharjah city.
“Our keenness to organize the best garden competition every year stems from our unshakable belief that the comprehensive agricultural boom and sustainable environment can only be realized by an effective participation of the public and all community sectors,” said Thabit Al Turaifi, director general of the SCM.
He emphasized that despite the great efforts exerted by the SCM to spread greenery across Sharjah, our ambition to put Sharjah on top of the greenest, most beautiful and brilliant cities in the region needs collective cooperation from the whole community. This will help as to achieve our vision in making Sharjah the ideal place for living and work and a tourist hub attracting tourists and visitors from every corner of the globe.
Al Turaifi pointed out that the SCM was keen on developing the competition year after year since its first launch in 2003 to cover more community sectors, explore new horizons of ideas and create unconventional and innovative methods of gardening decoration at homes and schools. The competition categories and criteria are reviewed and revised constantly so as to increase competitiveness and creativity among participants and encourage them to use the state-of-the-art technologies including solar energy in horticulture, irrigation and shading, and rationalization of water use, taking into consideration the security and safety requirements.
Abdulla Al Qaydi, Assistant Director General for Corporate Support at the SCM, said: “this year’s edition of the best garden completion is launched under the theme “The Green Sharjah” and comprises two categories: the best home garden, the best school garden. The best home garden category will be evaluated based on three styles: engineering style, natural style and mixed style.”
“We focus on those styles to bolster the aspects of aesthetic design and coordination, and to direct the participants to pay attention to the nature and quality of plants and ornamental flowers which reflect more beauty on gardens and enrich the aesthetic and cultural image of our beloved city,” he added.
Ali Obaid Director of Corporate Communication said that the registration is open as of today until the 12 of February, and potential participants can register by contacting the corporate communication department at the SCM, or registering online on its website. Three winners will be selected for the best home garden category, and one winner for the best school category. The winners will be honored in a big ceremony to be held during the celebrations of the plantation week in March 2017.
