Sharjah Municipality launch campaign to clean up rainwater drainage

​Sharjah City Municipality in collaboration with Sharjah police has organized an intensive cleaning campaign to clean up the rainwater drainage network all over the city.
 "the clean-up campaign which lasted for five days comes within the efforts of the rain emergency committee at the municipality to prepare for the upcoming winter season to prevent rain water accumulation on streets and roads and to ensure the comfort and safety of the public, the smooth flow of traffic, and to preserve the emirate’s aesthetics and structural views," said Jaffar Ali Jaffar the head of Environmental Service Department.
He pointed out that this yearly campaign is done by the Drainage Department to clean all of the main drainage manholes and networks, and ensure its safety and streamlined operation.
He noted that the Drainage Department has been cleaning and maintaining the city's major tunnels over the past two weeks as Al Arooba Street tunnel, Abu Shaghara tunnel, and book square tunnel.

Abdul Razzaq Al Hamady Head of Drainage Department stated that 300 workers has been allotted  by the municipality to carry out the campaign starting from 11 pm until 6 in the morning to ensure that there is no obstruction of traffic during the day. In addition to the presence of a large number of supervisors and engineers for follow-ups and supervision. He stressed that the municipality pays a special attention to the safety of workers, and it is keen on protecting them from risks that they may be exposed to during their work, through equipping them with all the necessary clothing and safety equipment when dealing with rain accumulation, and remove all the difficulties and obstacles that might hinder their work.
