Sharjah City Municipality Farm Violation Removal Committee Intensifies Inspection Campaigns on 196 Farms

6/24/2024

The Sharjah City Municipality Farm Violation Removal Committee is expanding its inspection and awareness initiatives across Sharjah, enforcing strict legal and administrative actions against land use violations and supporting farm owners in rectifying issues. This effort is in line with directives from the Executive Council of Sharjah, focused on regulating and preserving agricultural land use to prevent practices that undermine its intended purpose.
Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi, Director of Customer Service at Sharjah Municipality and head of the Farm Violation Committee, announced that the committee has successfully conducted 36 comprehensive field campaigns, inspecting 196 farms throughout Sharjah. These campaigns have effectively identified and addressed various violations, providing critical education to farm owners on compliance and best practices. The committee has also streamlined the process for issuing permits to correct and remove violations, ensuring optimal land use and investment.
Al Suwaidi emphasized that agricultural lands in Sharjah are designated to support local citizens, promoting optimal use for agriculture and livestock farming to enhance food security. These lands are equipped with essential services to aid beneficiaries in farming and related activities, in accordance with permits issued by relevant Sharjah authorities.
The committee has uncovered several violations, including the use of farms for unauthorized commercial activities, unapproved rentals, construction of illegal warehouses, housing non-working laborers, and erection of unlicensed buildings. Additionally, illegal electrical installations and other infractions have been identified, with the committee taking decisive legal and administrative actions as per its mandate and directives from the Sharjah Executive Council.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to continuing intensive inspection visits and campaigns across Sharjah. The committee urges farm owners to support local food security efforts, utilize their farms properly for agriculture and livestock, and help reduce visual nuisances and negative behaviors to enhance the community's agricultural landscape.
