Sharjah bird market to expand, animal market to be shifted

4/7/2014
As part of the ongoing development of Al-Jubail area, Sharjah City Municipality (SM) has announced a comprehensive plan to develop and expand the birds market in the area. The plan that was set out in coordination and cooperation with the other concerned authorities in Sharjah aims to preserve the aesthetic and cultural appearance of the city, and to build modern markets that provide high-quality services to the public.
“The municipality is keen on developing and modernizing all the markets across the emirate to keep pace with the march of progress and development witnessed all over Sharjah,” said Dr. Rasha Ahmed Al Qassimi, Assistant Director-General for Public Health and Central Laboratories at the SM.
She added, under the wise directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the animal market would be shifted from Al Jubail area to an area far from residential buildings, paving the way for the expansion of the bird market so as to accommodate the growing number of visitors and traders.
She pointed out that the SM exerts huge efforts to maintain cleanliness and provide a healthy environment in the bird market, as all shop owners are obliged to install exhaust fans to curb the foul odors in the market. The SM also ensures that pest control operations are conducted constantly in the market through the coordination between the market management and the pest control section.
She emphasized that the municipality carries out regular inspections on all shops in the market and ensures that all birds are subject to medical supervision by the veterinarians who are available all the time at the market.
The SM’s veterinary service offices at the market receive visitors who desire to have their birds checked and make sure they are free of diseases for the preservation of public health and safety.
