Sharjah Municipality’s Central Labs Celebrate 25 Years of International Accreditation by UKAS

9/4/2024

Sharjah City Municipality announced that its Central Laboratories Department has received international accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for the 25th consecutive year, celebrating a quarter-century of excellence since 1999. Throughout this period, the municipality has delivered a wide range of analytical and auditing services, significantly enhancing public health in Sharjah, in line with its strategy to provide a healthy environment and bolster the emirate's global reputation as the first "Healthy City" in the Middle East and North Africa.
Adel Omar, Director of Public Health and Central Laboratories, emphasized that these sustained achievements in laboratory auditing and analysis reflect the municipality’s commitment to continuous improvement. He highlighted the use of the latest and most efficient technologies, overseen by a highly skilled team dedicated to adopting global best practices and keeping abreast of new developments in sample analysis. These efforts aim to elevate service quality and deliver precise results, positively impacting public health in the emirate and aligning with goals to prioritize human health and ensure a high-quality, healthy environment.
Sheikha Dr. Najla Ali Al-Mualla, Director of the Central Laboratories Department, noted that the ongoing success of the department is further affirmed by the recent international accreditation of the Veterinary Laboratory. With this achievement, all of the municipality's laboratories — including the Food Laboratory, Environmental and Consumer Goods Laboratory, Building Materials Laboratory, and Veterinary Laboratory — are now accredited by UKAS, having successfully passed all audit stages and met global standards.
She added that Sharjah’s laboratories are committed to continuous quality enhancement by developing advanced analytical processes and integrating state-of-the-art equipment. The department regularly updates its technologies to keep pace with the rapid development across the emirate and in all aspects of life. Its goal is to improve public health across all segments of Sharjah’s community and to innovate new methods that contribute to achieving the emirate’s vision and objectives, particularly in auditing and analysis.
“For 25 years, the Central Laboratories Department has embraced innovation, consistently enhancing its analytical methods and incorporating new equipment to cover all products and materials,” she said. “Our team remains committed to excellence and leadership, supporting Sharjah’s health initiatives and its global vision for health and safety.”
