Sharjah Municipality starts issuing permits for food outlets to display and sell in Ramadan daytime

3/4/2024

Sharjah City Municipality (SCM) announces the commencement of issuing permits for food establishments to prepare and sell food during daylight in Ramadan, including establishments within commercial centers. Permits for food display outside premises before Iftar time, including restaurants, cafeterias, pastry shops, and bakeries, are also being issued as part of the SCM efforts to regulate activities during the holy month and enhance its role in maintaining public health through the issuance of these permits according to health standards and requirements.

Jamal Al Mazmi, Director of Health Control and Safety Department, emphasized that the SCM is preparing for Ramadan by intensifying inspections of food establishments to ensure compliance with approved health requirements and standards and organizing the work of these establishments by issuing necessary permits for their activities, including permits for preparing and selling food for non-Muslim communities during daytime in Ramadan. He pointed out that issuing these permits is subject to several conditions, including serving food off-site without receiving customers in a food serving area, as well as restricting food preparation and cooking only within kitchens.

Al Mazmi explained that the SCM issues permits for displaying food outside premises before Iftar time according to several conditions that must be adhered to, including displaying food on the front sidewalk directly, provided it is not sandy, placing food in non-rusting metal containers, and displaying them in a closed glass box with a minimum height of 100 cm, equipped with a sliding or hinged door, in addition to covering them with aluminum foil or transparent food-grade plastic and using food-grade packing materials. He also mentioned that the food should be kept at an appropriate temperature (not chilled or frozen) and prepared at the facility according to the authorized activity.
