The Sharjah City Municipality (SCM) has announced the commencement of the evaluation process for the gardens participating in the 17th edition of the Best Garden Award, launched by the SCM to enrich the cultural and aesthetic aspects of Sharjah city. This initiative aims to promote gardening to enhance the civilizational and aesthetic appearance of the emirate and engage the community in greening efforts and the spread of green spaces. The evaluation team organizes visits to the participating gardens in coordination with their owners to evaluate them according to the approved criteria.
Mr. Obaid Saeed Al-Tunaiji emphasized that the award enhances the community's role in supporting gardening efforts and spreading green spaces, thus improving the quality of life and positively impacting the environment. He highlighted the continuous agricultural projects and the ongoing expansion in landscaping and afforestation in the emirate. Therefore, the SCM is keen on community participation and encouraging the public to participate through this award, which has been launched for over 20 years, achieving great success during these years.
Al-Tunaiji explained that the SCM has received 59 applications for participation in the award since its announcement. Applications were received through the channels specified by the municipality. The concerned team has developed the necessary plans to begin the evaluation process according to the locations of the gardens and communication with their owners to determine the dates for visits and to review the applied criteria, enriching the aesthetic, engineering, and other aspects.
The Director-General of the SCM stated that three categories of parks are being evaluated: natural parks, where the natural style is applied by leaving the land in its natural state, allowing plants to grow naturally without pruning, and roads flow naturally; geometric parks, where the geometric style is applied with repeated shapes in a completely symmetrical geometric system in their various parts, with mostly straight coordination lines, and sometimes regular geometric lines are used; and creative or mixed parks, which combine both natural and geometric styles.
