Dangers of illegal animal slaughter

9/28/2014
The Sharjah Municipality is organising a number of awareness exhibitions on the dangers of illegally slaughtering animals.
The exhibition is part of an awareness programme to educate the public about ways of finding out if the animal is affected with diseases, and protection measures to be taken.
Shaza Al Muallah, Director of Public Health Department, said the awareness programme will continue until October 23. It’s organised at the Municipality main building, Sharjah cooperative society branches, ID card office in Al Rahmaniya and in several government offices in the emirate. The exhibition displays pictures of animals with disease and slaughtered animals found infected with various types of contagious diseases.
The programme is aimed at educating the public on the illegal slaughtering of animals during Eid Al Adha. Pamphlets and booklets explaining the various diseases are also being distributed.
The municipality has completed its preparations for Eid Al Adha and has equipped its abattoirs to meet the increase in demand,  she said.
Abattoirs maintain the highest standards of quality to ensure health safety for public. “Illegal slaughtering not only poses a risk to public health, but the waste of animals dumped in the open affects the cleanliness of the city and pollutes the environment,” she commented
Meat shops, restaurants and individuals if found slaughtering animals at undesignated places will risk fines of up to Dh20, 000, the municipality has warned. “Warnings have been issued to all outlets selling meat in the emirate,” she stressed.
