Sharjah City Municipality (SCM) has launched the 13th edition of the best garden competition under the theme “The Green Sharjah”, within the framework of its keenness to boost greenery and landscaping, and enrich the aesthetic and cultural appearance of Sharjah city.
“Our keenness to organize the best garden competition every year stems from our unshakable belief that the comprehensive agricultural boom and sustainable environment can only be achieved by the effective participation of the public and all community sectors,” said Riad Abdullah Aylan, director general of the SCM.
He emphasized that despite the great efforts exerted by the SCM to spread greenery across Sharjah, the ambition to make Sharjah the most green, beautiful and brilliant city in the region needs collective corporation from the whole community to be realized, hence making Sharjah the ideal place for living and working and a tourist hub attracting tourists and visitors from every corner of the globe.
Aylan pointed out that the SCM was keen on developing the competition year after year since its first launch in 2003 to cover more community sectors, explore new horizons of ideas and create unconventional and innovative methods of decorating gardens at homes, schools, hotels and other public and private establishments. The competition categories and criteria are reviewed and revised continuously so as to increase competitiveness and creativity among participants and encourage them to use the state-of-the-art technologies, including solar energy, in horticulture, irrigation and shading, rationalize the use of water while taking into consideration all security and safety requirements.
Nada Saeed Al Suwaidi, corporate communications director at the SCM, said: “this year’s edition of the best garden completion which is launched under the theme “The Green Sharjah” comprises four categories: the best home garden, the best school garden, the best hotel garden and the best public or private establishment garden. The best home garden category will be evaluated according to three styles: the engineering style, the natural style and the mixed style.”
“We focus on those styles to bolster the aspects of aesthetic design and coordination, and to direct the participants to pay attention to the nature and quality of plants and ornamental flowers which reflect more beauty on gardens and enrich the aesthetic and cultural image of our beloved city,” she added.
Al Suwaidi said that the registration is open for all categories to participate as of today until the 11th of February by contacting the corporate communication department at the SCM, or registering online on its website. Three winners will be selected for the best home garden category, and one winner for each one of the other categories. The winners will be honored in a big ceremony to be held during the celebrations of the plantation week in March 2016.
