Sharjah witnesses unprecedented development and economic boom

1/30/2017
Sharjah emirate is witnessing a remarkable development and progress in various fields and unprecedented economic boom, becoming an attractive hub for investors and businessmen, according to Khalifa Bin Hedda Al Suwaidi, Assistant Director General for Engineering and Projects at Sharjah City Municipality (SCM).
He attributed this boom to the high quality services provided in Sharjah and its developed infrastructure, pointing out that the engineering and projects sector at the SCM is adopting many development initiatives to cope with the economic boom and participate in this march of economic renaissance and quality projects implemented in Sharjah, as per the wise directives of HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, supreme council member and ruler of Sharjah.
It is expected that these quality projects will reach a new level, thanks to the Sharjah budget announced by His Highness that amounted to Dhs22 billion, making it the biggest budget ever announced for the emirate.
Bin Hedda added that allotting 31% of the budget to develop the emirate's infrastructure is an indicator to the emirate's strategies and plans that focus on strengthening and reinforcing the economic base in Sharjah, pointing out that the engineering sector has accomplished many achievements throughout the past year in regards to the development of infrastructure and services, keeping abreast with the unprecedented urban expansion seen as a result of the population growth in the emirate.
"The number of transactions completed by the building permit section in 2016 has seen 9% increase in comparison to 2015, as they reached 6589, out of which 3324 were building permits, 3265 were plans approval transactions. The building completion certificates issued by the section reached 1947 with 53% over the previous year," said Bin Hedda, revealing that this increase in the number of completion certificates indicates the revival of many stopped projects.
He asserted that the engineering and projects sector at the SCM has put in place a strategy for the current year, interpreting the vision of the wise leadership in supporting and providing all means for achieving quality and excellence in work according to applicable steps included the provision of new engineering services for customers. The electronic and smart transformation is one of the main pillars of the sector's strategy in the coming period, keeping pace with the technological renaissance witnessed by the emirate. Also, the sector is keen to improve the operations and processes to be more effective and efficient, providing training and spreading the engineering culture among all concerned and competent entities.
