SM honors strategic partners for assistance in implementing public health programs

6/22/2014
Sharjah City Municipality(SM) has honored its strategic partners who cooperate with and assist it in implementing the strategic plans of its public health and central laboratories sector. This initiative has come in appreciation of the significant roles played by private and government entities and corporations in safeguarding the public health and boosting health awareness among all community members.
“Sharjah Municipality has a lot of tasks to do, and it cannot achieve any of its goals without the collective efforts and cooperation of all entities and institutions in the city,” said Riyadh Abdullah Aylan, Director-General of Sharjah City Municipality.
He praised the role played by the municipality’s strategic partners to raise and boost the health awareness among all segments of society, resulting in the enhanced levels of health sector in the emirate of Sharjah.
H.E. Rashid Al Rasheed, Deputy Chairman of Sharjah City Municipal Council; Dr. Basamat Omar, Dean of Health Sciences College at the University of Sharjah, and a number of government departments and corporations were attending the honoring ceremony.
Aylan stressed that the interest of those entities to cooperate with the Sharjah Municipality was a crucial factor driving the World Health Organization to recognize the Sharjah Food Safety Program as one of most successful initiatives, as well as pushing Sharjah to become the region’s first Healthy City under World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
Dr. Rasha Ahmed Al Qassimi, assistant director-general for health and central laboratories at the SM, said without the cooperation and assistance of all community sectors, the heath control bodies in the emirate couldn’t accomplish its task and protect public health.
She praised the efforts exerted by the educational institutions, particularly the Heath Science College at the University of Sharjah, and thanked Dr. Basamat Omar for her support and contributions to the programs and activities organized by the municipality throughout the year.
For their part, the honored entities and persons thanked Sharjah Municipality for the appreciation of their works and contributions, and praised the efforts and initiatives rolled out by the municipality to protect the public health and environment.
